Geogrid vs Geotextile

Geogrid vs Geotextile – Geotextiles are used in many road construction projects. However, new geosynthetic kinds, such as geogrids, have emerged as a result of technological advancements and offer advantages over geotextiles.

Which would you choose if you had to choose between geotextile and geogrid?

The knowledge and use of geotextile and geogrid will be covered in this article, allowing you to select the material that best suits your requirements.

What is Geogrid?

An innovative geosynthetic material was recently developed to address geotextile inadequacies, particularly the issue of material stiffness.

A geosynthetic material called geogrid is a sheet with frame-like holes that serve as bones to support the soil-strengthening structure. With this method of operation, the geogrid is placed a degree above the ground’s surface and given a cluster. As the cluster enters the hole, it interlocks with the geogrid, creating a high suspension.

A material utilized in project construction is geotextile. Its predecessor, geotextiles, did not have the characteristics that geogrid does.

Geogrid Types

There are several different types of geogrids, including:

1. Geogrid Biaxial

The type of geogrid with a four-square-shaped opening is typically used as a stabilizing or reinforcing material on very soft soil types such as muddy land, debris, and muddy areas. This type of geogrid is usually made of polypropylene and polyethylene materials.

2. Geogrid Uniaxial

It has one square with a single opening that resembles a long square. It can be applied to special purposes like slope stabilization and ground retention walls in addition to soil reinforcement.

3. Geogrid Triaxial

The surface of the triaxial geogrid is triangular and has the same function as the bi-axial type. But different in performance, this type is better than the two-axis geogrid due to its stiffer cavity arrangement, so the load distribution becomes more even.

4. Polyester Geogrid

It is a polyester wire that is also known as PET grid. It is made of filament or thread, and non-toxic coatings or polymers are applied to its outer surfaces.

Use of Geogrid

Because its components are more durable than geotextiles, geogrid is frequently used in construction projects. Geogrids are used in landfills, abutment(head) bridges, rock fortification, and land reinforcement on slopes in addition to assisting with road construction projects.Temp Pembuangan Akhir.

Due to the evenly distributed load, the use of geogrids during road construction can help increase ground support power, preventing localized land falls and making it more difficult for waves to occur.

What is Geotextile?

One of the most frequently used materials is geotextile. The majority of Indonesia’s land is soft due to its geographic location. Compared to other methods of strengthening soil, this material is very beneficial and relatively inexpensive. It is also strong enough to prevent the soil from ambling around too easily.

Geotextile types

There are two categories of geotextiles, namely:

1.Woven Geotextile

It is a type of geotextile made from synthetic fibers primarily made of polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP). Due to its chopped and black creation, woven has a texture similar to a palate.

2. Non Woven Geotextile

Polymer fibers, the primary component of which is polypropylene/polyester, are used to create one type of sheet-shaped, non-woven geotextile. Nonwoven geotextiles are white and have a carpet-like texture.

Functions of Geotextile

  • Enhancing the foundation
  • Railroad line construction
  • Waterfront and Jetty
  • Building of bronze
  • Prevents the mixing of aggregate stones and soft soil.
  • Both vertical and horizontal drainage

Both are resistant to chemicals and UV rays. Thus the discussion about Geogrid and Geotextile.
