HDPE Geomembrane Installation Manual

HDPE Geomembrane Installation Manual – Geomembranes are crucial components in modern landfill design, primarily used to prevent leachate from contaminating groundwater and to control gas emissions.A geomembrane is a synthetic, waterproof barrier used to control fluid or gas migration in the environment. It is typically made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) resins and is designed to prevent soil and groundwater contamination from hazardous substances.

# Site Preparation:
  • Clearing and Grading
It is necessary to remove any possible risks, including sharp items, plants, and debris, from the installation area. The surface needs to be graded to ensure uniformity and lessen undulations that could strain the geomembrane.
  • Subgrade Preparation
The layer directly below the geomembrane, or subgrade, needs to be hard and smooth. The surface needs to be graded to ensure uniformity and lessen undulations that could strain the geomembrane.
  • Geotextile Underlay (if required)
Underneath the geomembrane, a nonwoven geotextile layer can be added for stability and further puncture protection.

# Field Connection

a) Weather Conditions: Avoid installing under bad weather conditions to ensure the quality of the welds.

b) Welding Methods: Employ hot wedge welding, which eliminates the need to add additional materials to the welding process and doesn’t require roughening the film’s surface.

c) Seam Integrity: Ensure that the seams are free from dirt, sand, water, and other debris that could affect the quality of welding.
