Repair Steps

1) Identify the Damage

  • Find the damaged location and mark it. Make sure to check the surroundings as well for any additional possible damages.

2) Prepare the Area

  • Clean the damaged area and its surroundings thoroughly to remove any dirt, debris, or contaminants. Use appropriate cleaning agents to ensure a clean surface.
  • Dry the area completely before proceeding.

3) Surface Preparation

  • Roughen the surface of the geomembrane around the damaged area using an abrasive tool. This helps in creating a better bond between the liner and the repair patch.

4) Cut the Patch

  • Cut a repair patch from the same material as the geomembrane. Ensure the patch is large enough to cover the damaged area with at least a 10 cm (4 inches) overlap on all sides.

5) Position the Patch

  • Place the patch over the damaged area and secure it with clamps or weights to keep it in position.

6) Welding the Patch

  • Using a hot air gun or extrusion welder, weld the patch to the geomembrane. Start at one edge and work systematically across the patch to avoid air bubbles and ensure a uniform weld.
  • Use a hand roller to press the patch firmly against the liner while welding, ensuring good contact and bonding.

7) Cool and Inspect

  • Allow the welded area to cool down naturally. Avoid any mechanical stress on the patched area until it has completely cooled and set.

8) Test the Seam

  • Conduct a seam test to ensure the repair is watertight. For this, an air lance test or vacuum box test are frequently employed. Reweld the area and conduct another test if any leaks are found.
